Lycian Way Hiking Routes
The Lycian Way is a very winding road. That route goes straight up and down the hills, ascending and descending. You will see on the road white and red line directions so it helps to the trekkers to find the route easly. There are more than 21 different routes on Lycian way hiking road. Most popular trails are Fethiye, Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon), Butterfly Valley, Kabak Bay, Seven Capes, Patara, Çıralı, Aperlai, Kaş.
Kayaköy (Ghost Town) to Ölüdeniz Route
It is short route and you hike first day for starting the route for easy. Now please let me explain the that historical and natural locations.
- Kayaköy ; It is one of the largest cities of the Lycian Union. Kayaköy was known as Levissi and Karmylassos in ancient times.It was destroyed by eartquake in 1956 in Fethiye. Kayaköy attracts the attention of many tourists todays. During the Lycian way Hiking tour, you should see the Kayaköy. There is not much left of the Lycian Civizilation. When you come to Kayaköy, you will see the Grek and Ottoman ruins. Kayaköy is named as Ghost town. The reason of that name, Thracian Turks who settled in this region in 1923 could not adapt to the infrastructure and established a new settlement on the plain.
- Ölüdeniz ; Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon) was chosen as the best beach in the world in 2006 years. Ölüdeniz is the landing area for paraglidiers.
Faralya (Butterfly Valley) to Kabak
Faralya is located on the slopes of Butterfly Valley. There is more water resources. One of the most important features of Faralya is that it hosts many endemic species. There are more bungolow houses and pensions options for the trekkers. Butterfly Valley is the right next to Faralya. It can be dangerous that climb down to butterfly valley. Road is very steep slope and slippery. You also have the chance to come to Butterfly Valley by boats departing from Ölüdeniz. Kabak is the bay.
Adrasan- Olympos- Çıralı Route
There are 2 different option on this track. One of this is 16 kms and an other is 19kms. The road leads to the mountain and the coast. Çıralı is known as Turkish Maldives. Olympos and Çıralı beaches are actually located consecutively. Also you can see the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine ruins in the Ancient City of Olympos.
Kaş to Limanağzı and Üzüm Pier Route
That route is 13kms. Sea view and some Lycian tombs accompany to you during walking. You will both enjoy the sea and reach the depths of history. The King’s Tombs in Kaş were once destroyed. That route, you should more water, no water sources on that route. Also you can swim at that route at limanağzı beach and üzüm pier. That beaches are magnificient.
Sahilkılıçlı to Aperlai and Üçağız Village Route
That route is 15 kms, takes 5 hours. Route is mostly descent and flat walking route. When you arrive to Aperlai, you fall in love the nature in aperlai. A house near the lake and some sunken ruins. This track, which is full of historical ruins, allows you to witness wonderful views as if they were drawn by a painter.
Ovacık-Faralya Trail
The starting point of the Lycian Way is Ovacık, located between Fethiye center and Olüdeniz. At the starting point in Ovacık neighborhood, you will see the Lycian Way starting sign in the forest. The walk continues through the forest on a stone-paved path, then on a tractor road. Follow the directional signs and the stone steps to the path. This path gives you the feeling of an ancient road and continues as an uphill climb for about 5 km. There are two water cisterns on this path. Then you switch from the path to a gravel road for vehicles. As you begin to descend from the road, the Lycian Way continues as a path. Through tall pine trees, you reconnect to a dirt road at the entrance to Kozağaç Village. The road extends to Kirme village. Then you begin your descent towards Faralya village.
Faralya – Kabak Trail
This route consists of 2 different hiking trails. The first route largely consists of footpaths and stabilized forest roads. Although the distance is short and the difficulty level is low, it is advisable to take precautions even if there is a water source along the trail. Therefore, it is recommended to obtain the necessary amount of water from the Faralya settlement before starting the hike. The second route is known as a mountain pass and consists of a challenging climb and descent. There are markets where you can shop in the upper settlement area of Kabak Bay. While there are various guesthouses around the upper settlement of Kabak, there are also guesthouses offering accommodation with campsites around the bay and beach.
